Last week I chanced to tune in to the Cardif Singer of the Year competition and admired a young American Mezzo Soprano Jamie Barton singing one of Elgar's 'Sea Pictures' which I have long enjoyed. She got through to last nights final 'Singer of the World'. Having got totally bored with 'The Voice' on BBC 1, I turned over to BBC 4 and the Cardif contest and was astounded by a real 'voice' Jamie Barton singing Sibelius 'The Tryst' opus 37, No.5 [1901-Runeberg] absolutely superb. She won the prize and can be seen at the final next week.--kp Very Happy
