11/02/2013 The Lahti Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its chief conductor Okko Kamu, will be touring in South America for the first time in October 2013. The first two concerts of the tour will be held at the prestigious Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in which many top orchestras (e.g. the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics) and distinguished conductors and soloists (e.g. Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Enrico Caruso, David Oistrakh and Herbert von Karajan). The orchestra has two concerts also at the Sala São Paulo (Brazil), the hall of which acoustics has been designed by Artec Consultants (New York) as has been the Sibelius Hall in Lahti. The other tour concerts will be in Rosario (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The soloist at the tour is violinist Elina Vähälä, who was performing as the soloist of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra also e.g. at its tour in Sweden in 2010. The soloist works are Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius and Violin Concerto No. 1 by Max Bruch. The other tour programme includes e.g. Symphony No. 5 by Sibelius and Symphony No. 4 by Felix Mendelssohn.
