Re my earlier posts on Prof. Greg. Barretts reconstruction of the En saga Septet. In the Issue 63 [July] edition of the UK Sibelius society Newsletter, my article on the Septet was featured and I sent a copy over to Greg in America. Greg has just e-mailed me to say how much he enjoyed reading it and how much he is impressed with regard to Sibelius's following in the UK.
When he set about the reconstruction of the original version of En saga for clarinet, flute, two violins viola, cello and double bass, he had only found four pieces by Sibelius featuring clarinet. The Musette from King Christian 11 and three others originally for brass Septet, but revised by horn player-conductor Christian Haupt to include clarinet in place of the E flat Piccolo cornet.
I have suggested to him the lovely 'Autrefois' [1919] for Strings and two soprano's or clarinets. Prof. Barrett had missed this one and he now intends to try and seek it out.
Kurki, it was good to see also your feature in the Newsletter 'Why I created the Sibelius forum'. Long may it continue.--kp
