For Christmas 1897, Jean Sibelius gave his brother-in-law Eero Järnefelt a piano piece, a preliminary version (named simply 'Andantino', without the virtuoso passages of the two published editions) of what was to become the Idyll, Op.24 No.6.

At Christmas 1901, Sibelius’s present to Axel Carpelan was another piano work, the famous Romance in D flat major, Op.24 No.9.
