A very memorable Wednesday-just-gone. Compositions for violin and piano by our very own Jean Sibelius and the violin played by none other than his grand daughter Satu Jalas.
Folke Grasbeck was the pianist so that was an added bonus.
We had the Romance in F major, Op 78 no 2, On the Heath Op 115, Tanz-Idyelle Op 79 No 5, Valse, Op 81 No 3.
Sonata in F major, JS 178
Sonatina in E major, Op 80
Humoresques 1, 4 and 5 Op 87,89 and 89 No 3
The concert was held at the residence of the Finnish Ambassador in London. A few of the UK Sibelius Society were there. The following day there was a similar concert in Brighton but I did not attend but I am sure Andrew Barnett will give us a good account of it and hopefully improve on my attempt of the above concert. Sibelius has always meant and means so much to me and seeing his grand daughter was just indescribable as she does resemble him and more the fact that she was playing his violin. An evening I am not ever going to forget.
Sorry, have a few pictures but not sure which of the below is the best best...open to suggestions.
