Interesting he should join this particular week, when my orchestra is playing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1... in my 3 years with the orchestra, this is the first time we are playing Liszt!

Hi, everyone! And thank you, Kurki! Glad to be here (finally). I feel a strong urge to talk about Sibelius, since I recently got to know and love the music of this great symphonist.

The trombone theme from the 7th which plays when entering the forum is magnificent!

You have correctly identified the forum's theme music, but just as a little aside, the excerpt is from the end of the symphony, bar 505, just before letter Ö, where horns and bassoons play the line, with trombones sustaining a C+ chord underneath.

But yes, it is the "trombone" theme nonetheless.

The Hansen edition has rehearsal letters in the score, and they go beyond Z, thus the Ö...

Thanks Kurkikohtaus for the welcome. I was looking for the introductions area yesterday but didn't find it. I guess I didn't look very hard since I found it today.

My avatar shows a brewed cup of keemun tea surrounded by keemun tea leaves. I thought it artistically worthy of an avatar.

As for my introduction, I chose the name "Keemun" because it is one of my favorite teas. I first became interested in Sibelius several years ago when I heard the Second Symphony (Barbirolli/Hallé, 1966) several years back. Since then I've acquired (and listened to) all of Sibelius' symphonies, many tone poems, the violin concerto and Kullervo.

Hi everyone and a belated hello from Kullervopete. Since joining in June I have been so busy moving around the forum and reading so many facinating contributions [plus sending in a few of my own] that I never noticed this bit of the proceedings! As a keen member of the UK Sibelius society I hope that I can contribute a few interesting things. Also a big thank you to Kurkikohtaus for giving me my great avatar.--kullervopete.
