If you know the English satirical magazine Private Eye, you'll be familiar with this type of thing; if not, they're fun anyway. The actual resemblance doesn't have to be all that close - it's just a bit of a laugh. Note that the accompanying text is designed to be like a ‘letter to the editor’ in a magazine and is rather formulaic, i.e. always starting and ending in the same way [I could not help noticing a resemblance between… and… I wonder if perchance they might be related?]. Further contributions welcome!

I could not help noticing a resemblance between Guidoriccio da Fogliano, as depicted in Simone Martini’s fresco (1328–30) at the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena and Kullervo going to war in Axel Gallén’s eponymous painting from 1901. I wonder if perchance they might be related?

I could not help noticing a resemblance between the nude female figure in Akseli Gallen-Kallela's "Ad Astra" and American R&B singer Diana Ross (below, center). I wonder if perchance they might be related?

I couldn't help noticing the striking resemblance between the up-and-coming entertainer-illusionist "David Copperfield" (that's not his real name) and the world-famous conductor Michael Rohac (that's not his real name either). I wonder who's baton is bigger?

I couldn't help noticing the similarities between a very old and obscure photograph of Herbert von Karajan when his hair wasn't straight up in the hair and Sir John Barbirolli (!). I wonder if by some infinitesimally small chance they might be ever so slightly related?

Nah, probably just had the same barber. Weren't they both in England at the time?

That is indeed very possible... unless Barbirolli was in New York while Karajan was conducting the Philharmonia? Rolling Eyes

Well isn't that just ducky.

I couldn't help noticing similarities between Leif Segerstam and Santa Claus. Bypassing the possibility of their being related, I think Segerstam is Santa Claus. But in keeping with the premise of this thread: perhaps they are related?

I could not help noticing the lack of resemblance between Leif Segerstam in 1974 and Leif Segerstam nowadays. I wonder if perchance they might not be related?

I could not help noticing a resemblance between Composer Jean Sibelius and Uncle Fester of the Adams family. Might they be distant cousins.--kp

Thanks Tapkaara, I've done a quick edit! Its years since I watched the original series on teli. Most pictures of Sibelius show him looking rather dour and stern, so I chose one of the few of him smiling, which I think makes Fester look all the more sinister.-kp

I've always thought that there were great similarities between Grieg and American writer Mark Twain:

And now for something completely expected...

I couldn't help noticing the similarities between rocker Dmitri Shostakovich and boy wizard Harry Potter. Perhaps they are related?
