I just picked up Guy Rickard's biography of Sibelius. I'm anout 1/3 of the way through. Not bad so far; it focuses more on the man's life than his music. In fact, his musical woks are given pretty short shrift.

The book contains lots of great photos that I had never seen before.

Has anyone else read this..you thoughts?

It was actually the first Sibelius biography that I read. Clean, consise, nice binding and yes, the photos are great.

I picked up Guy Rickards book during my first visit to Londons Barbican Centre in 1997. It was then newly published. Very well written book, written by a much respected authority on Nordic music. Also that memorable night I heard Colin Davies conduct the LSO in Nightride and Sunrise, Kullervo Symphony and Finlandia. Great occasion-great book.--kp
