There's also a new book by the indefatigable David Hurwitz:
Sibelius - The Orchestral Works - An Owner's Manual.
Haven't got it yet but shall try soon…

The book is quite detailed on symphonies plus a couple of others. Less so on tone poems.

I remember Hurwitz also considered Kullervo and Lemminkainen Suite as symphonies, same with Pete.

The book takes sort of a historical perspective. So Kullervo and Lemminkäinen are discussed as major works prior to symphony 1-7 discussion.
